NEW York City Hall

elopements

LONG OVERLOOKED AS JUST ANOTHER GOVERNMENT BUILDING, THE MANHATTAN MARRIAGE BUREAU AT 141 WORTH STREET IS NOW A TRENDY DESTINATION FOR COUPLES CHOOSING TO ELOPE.

Featured in VOGUE, NEW YORK TIMES, ANTI -BRIDE and other prominent wedding trendsetters, City Hall weddings are having a new life.

It might seem counterintuitive — the interior is stark, retro, and unapologetically bureaucratic — but that’s precisely its charm. A New York City Hall wedding strips everything back to what truly matters: two people in love. Let’s face it, there’s something deeply romantic about forgoing months of planning and overspending on lavish venues and extensive guest lists, and instead, turning an ordinary weekday into your own personal holiday. And honestly, what could be more special than that?

In recent years, City Hall has transformed into a vibrant tapestry of love stories—from avant-garde fashionistas and city creatives to elegantly understated couples. This eclectic mix has become the heartbeat of City Hall’s unique allure.

Our City Hall elopements capture this spirit, blending genuine emotion with unfiltered elegance. A touch of street style, a hint of cinema, and always authentically you.

Are you drawn to the spirit of a City Hall elopement but unsure where to start? You’re in the right place. )

All You Need to Know to Get Married at NYC City Hall

  • STEP I: APPLY FOR YOUR MARRIAGE LICENSE

Many couples don’t realize that you must first apply for the license before getting married at the City Clerk’s chapel. You can apply online through the Office of the City Clerk. And don’t worry, you don’t need to be a New York resident. You can get married at New York City Hall even if you’re traveling from out of state or abroad. Make it a destination elopement you will always remember — there is nothing like having NYC as a backdrop for your special day. Once you apply, you’ll receive a confirmation number with details on what IDs and documents you’ll need to bring with you.

  • STEP II: GET IN TOUCH & SCHEDULE YOUR CEREMONY.

Contact us to check our availability, then book your ceremony date with the City Clerk’s office. Keep in mind — you need two separate appointments: one for the license, and one for the ceremony itself. For more details on paperwork and required identification, visit the City Clerk’s website.

  • STEP III: LET’S PLAN YOUR DAY.

Schedule a call with us to go over everything from style and outfits to timelines, itineraries, and mood boards. Or just talk through what matters most to you — we’re here to help make your day feel unique and entirely yours.

  • STEP IV: DON’T FORGET FORMALITIES.

The ceremony requires one witness. You can ask a friend, a family member — or if you’re planning to elope just the two of you, your photographer can serve as the witness.
As of March 2024, you’re allowed to bring up to 4 people (total of 6 people  — for example, a couple, photographer, witness, and 2 more people).

  • STEP V: SAY “I DO” AND MAKE IT YOURS.

From vows at City Hall to a subway ride with champagne and stolen kisses on the crowded streets — your wedding day should feel like your favorite movie. Let’s make it one to remember.

If you always dreamed of getting married in New York City but never felt connection to overdone flower aches and staged receptions, if you’re drawn to urban poetry, cinematic style, and honest moments — you’re in the right place. A Courthouse wedding is an intimate statement. A choice to do things your way — with intention and style.
